Cathedral of San Cataldo
The Cathedral of San Cataldo (or Cathedral of San Cataldo) is a church in Taranto, precisely the oldest Apulian cathedral.
It is 600 meters from the Aragonese Castle in the old city and if you pass Taranto it is a must.
Spartan Museum
The Spartan Museum of Taranto is located in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in the Ancient Village of Taranto, Puglia.
The internal visit allows you to cross history and events that have marked the city life for two millennia descending for about 16 meters below the road level and 4 meters below sea level for a total of 800 square meters.
Cheradi Islands
The Cheradi Islands constitute a small archipelago that closes to the south-west the dock of the Great Sea of Taranto, in the homonymous gulf.
The archipelago consists of the two islands of San Pietro and San Paolo.

Monument to the Sailor
The monument to the Sailor of Taranto is one of the monuments of the New Town of the city. Dedicated to the sailors of the Italian Navy, it was built in bronze on Corso Due Mari by the sculptor Vittorio Di Cobertaldo in 1974.
The sculpture, which is about seven meters high and rests on a pedestal, depicts two sailors in the act of greeting the boats that are about to cross the navigable canal that connects the Great Sea with the Mar Piccolo, raising upwards the typical cap with the right hand.
Aragonese Castle
The Castle of Taranto, called Castel S. Angelo, is located near an ancient natural depression of the rock bank above which stands the ancient village of the city.
The king of Naples, Ferdinando d 'Aragona, therefore decided to reinforce the coastal defenses of the kingdom. In this context, between 1487 and 1492, the Castle of Taranto was rebuilt following perhaps the specific project of the great Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio.
Free visits to the Aragonese Castle continue daily including holidays.
Temple of Poseidon
The Temple of Poseidon (or Doric Temple) is a peripteral temple of Doric order located in today's Piazza Castello in the historic center of Taranto. It turns out to be the oldest temple in Magna Graecia and is the only Greek place of worship that can still be visited in Taranto.
The temple is dated to the first quarter of the VI century BC.
In the 1700s ten pieces of columns were still visible, but they were removed and disappeared during the rebuilding of the convent in 1729. Other finds were dispersed with the subsequent demolition of the convent in 1926 and of the nearby church in 1973.

Church of the Carmine
The primitive foundations of the Church of the Carmine are very old. In 1577, at the arrival of the Carmelites, it was dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine.
The church has always been at the center of the Brotherhood's attentions: in the course of its history it has repeatedly been the object of restoration and improvement. A change concerns the main altar where there are four other paintings, St. Peter the Apostle and St. Mark Evangelist, oils on canvas, sec.XIX, by unknown authors, Nativity of Mary Most Holy, oil on canvas, sec. XVII by an unknown author, S.Elia Prophet, oil on canvas, sec. XVII, by an unknown author.
Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art
The Museum is located in the building that for more than four centuries was the seat of the Archiepiscopal Seminary. The museum includes a tour of three floors (36 exhibition rooms) and seven thematic sections, hosting a collection of more than 300 works of art covering a period from the seventh century to the twenty-first century.
The Museum, owned by the Archdiocese of Taranto, is a permanent non-profit institution serving the community.
